Project Design and Evaluation Course

Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program is pleased to offer this course in an effort to help its partners in their efforts to protect the natural environment and fulfill the Program’s management plan. Special thanks to NOAA Coastal Services Center for offering this course and to Sarasota County’s Sustainable Sarasota for the use of a county meeting facility.

Tuesday-Thursday, December 12-14, 2006

This is a 2.5-day course. The agenda is to meet from 8:30 to 4:30 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 8:30 to 12:30 on Thursday.

Description of Project Design and Evaluation Course

This course provides coastal resource management extension and education professionals with the knowledge, skills, and tools to design and implement projects that have measurable impacts on the audience they want to reach. This interactive curriculum can help you increase the effectiveness of your projects by applying valid instructional design theory to their design. After attending the workshop, participants will be able to:

This course was offered to CHNEP partners in 2003. On the third day of that course participants asked that the course be offered again the next year because it was that good!

Registration: The registration fee is $60, which includes refreshment breaks and lunch. At this time we are unable to accept payment by credit card. If you wish to attend but are unable to pay the registration fee, please contact Maran Hilgendorf. Refunds will not be issued. Payment is requested promptly but will be accepted until December 1. At that time your reserved space may be forfeited if there is a waiting list.

12/7/2006 -- If you wish to register for this workshop, please contact Maran Hilgendorf (239/338-2556 x 240, mhilgendorf@swfrpc.org) as soon as possible. Because the workshop is only a few days away, the on-line registration form has been deactivated.

To register, please complete and submit the on-line registration form by October 20 to help in the development of the workshop program.

1) Please complete and submit the on-line registration form (above) to reserve a space for you until payment is received.

2) Please print the completed on-line registration form and mail, along with a check made payable to SWFRPC, to:

If more than 30 people register, priority will be given to those who are helping to implement CHNEP’s management plan.

More details: Directions to the meeting facility, lunch options and additional information will be posted on this website as they are known. Information on hotels in the county is maintained by the Sarasota County Convention & Visitor Bureau. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Comfort Inn (800-228-5150) for a discounted rate of $69.95. This discounted rate will be available through November 20. When making your room reservation, let them know you are attending Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program's workshop. This hotel is nearby to where the course will be held, which will in the Green Conference Room at Twin Lakes Park. For more details about the Comfort Inn follow the link to all hotels, select "stay" then "Sarasota" then scroll to the Comfort Inn listing.

Directions: The course will be held at Sarasota County’s Twin Lakes Park (6700 Clark Rd/SR 72 in Sarasota) in their Green Conference Room. From I-75, take exit 205 then travel east approximately half a mile. The park is on the south side of the road. To help guide you, I’ll try to put a few CHNEP signs out near the entrance to the park and near the entrance to the building, which is the building closest to the road. Unfortunately there is construction on I-75 near the exit! When I drove through Sarasota a few weeks ago traffic moved at about 30 mph for several miles. Please plan accordingly! Additional information about this facility is available on Sarasota County's website.

Please share this message with others you think may be interested in participating, especially if they are or might help implement CHNEP’s management plan.

Thank you!

Objectives: Know other participants, workshop objectives, logistics, and the importance of proper project design and evaluation.

8:55

Instructional Design Theory

Objectives: Understand the “big picture” of instructional design theory (what it is, what it entails). Correctly identify and describe the steps in the ADDIE Model.

9:25

Needs Assessment

Objectives: Describe where needs assessment fits in the process of program and project planning; state the benefits of conducting a needs assessment; state the 12-step process for conducting needs assessments; identify the goals and objectives of NAs and how these differ from project goals and objectives.
